After another rainy Monday and with a clearing weather Tuesday, we’re set to move to Sault Ste. Marie tomorrow AM. Yesterday we rented a car and drove to Petoskey to get haircuts, manicure / pedicure, stock up on some hard to find supplies and go to the bank. We chose a great day because it rained almost the entire day. It was fun driving off the island to the car ferry, into the eastern UP, across the Mackinac Bridge to Petoskey. By comparison Petoskey seems like a booming metropolis to Drummond Island! So while Admiral attended to her important business, I chased around town picking up things. BTW - air temps were 15’ warmer in the northern lower peninsula compared to Drummond. It actually got muggy.

In the meantime, water levels continue to rise. Minor flooding is now occurring in front of the ship’s store here. Forecast is for scattered thunderstorms this evening and clearing before morning. Our cruise is slightly less than 50 nm from Drummond and primarily in a very large river.

We’ve had a nice time here and would return. They have three young ladies tending to the docks and everyone is related to someone on the island. McKenzie is going to MSU; Jordan will be a junior at Pickford HS, and Bella will be a sophomore in DeTour HS although she lives on the island.

I had previously thought “island time” Meant time on a Caribbean island but have now learned it applies to Drummond as well. No one locks anything, everyone knows everyone, and time seems to pass slowly. It’s been fun. The only challenge here is cell phone coverage. Since we’re on the international border, our cell phone service is constantly switching from Verizon to whatever Canadian carrier it connects. And BTW, international roaming fees are not cheap! I suspect we’ll experience more of the same when we get to the Sault.
