Good morning! Yesterday was the summer solstice - 15 hours and 45 minutes of official daylight here. We were up for most of it. I can tell you that it was still “light” out even when we went to bed at 2215 hrs! First light occurs at 0505 hrs and last light was at 2208 hrs. It was a beautifully sunny day with a continuous breeze from the northeast and temp was in the low 70’s - a day I would describe as a “chamber of commerce” day! Looks like we’ll have a couple more days of similar weather before rain comes in Monday. Right now it’s 52’ as the sun rises over the eastern shoreline.

We’ve been laying low for the past couple of days. Played golf at The Rock golf course. It’s a beautiful course cut through a hardwood forest with no one else on it. I played fairly well - my driver worked so that gave me a lot of opportunity for second shots but my putting was off so at the end I posted my typical score. Because we’re playing with only half the clubs we would otherwise carry I guess I lost 6-10 shots because I needed to improvise an approach shot. The Rock is a part of the Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center. This development was the brainchild of Tom Monaghan, the founder of Dominos Pizza and one time owner of the Detroit Tigers. The buildings are huge - too large for their current application - and located in the middle of nowhere. I suppose it’s a “build it and they will come” type of project. It must cost a fortune to operate and maintain it. Monaghan no longer owns it. The course is in excellent condition and it cost only $70 for the two of us to play 18 holes! Definitely a course to play again.

We were able to lay out on the sun pad and soak up our first sun day of the season yesterday. As we were getting ready to come in we noticed a boat that looked familiar approaching the marina. Sure enough, it was John and Angela, the couple we met in Hessel, MI. We shouted to them, went to their boat for awhile and later went to dinner together. We were all surprised to see one another. What a small world!

Today we’ll evaluate and plan to move to Sault Ste Marie on Tuesday. Monday we’re driving to Harbor Springs / Petoskey to take of some business and for the Admiral to get a manicure. Monday looks like a rain day as well.
