Underway at 0800 hrs today after a fun six day stay in Charleston. Our stay was extended from Sunday because the new supercharger pulley was defective, and the mechanics couldn’t finish installing it until Monday. With oil changes complete, new fuel filters on the generator and a new supercharger on the port engine we hammered down to Georgetown. Weather and sea conditions were favorable, and we ran the outside to Georgetown inlet. Not many boats on the water today. However, as we were cruising along at ~20 knots (~24 mph) I noticed a boat approaching via AIS and on the radar. Not many boats cruise at our speed and if we see one it’s usually a sport fishing boat. This one was different. It was moving really quickly, faster than a sport fish. I moved the chart plotter cursor to the target and identified the boat as a 115’ cruiser! It overtook us like a Ferrari passing a VW Bug two miles off our starboard! Neat to see that kind of speed and power on the ocean.

Georgetown is about 8-10 miles inland and is a quaint, little town. Years ago, I had business here and always liked the small town feel and the cute downtown area. After cleaning up we walked the downtown area and talked to a couple of merchants. My opinion hasn’t changed - I still like this town!

Since this is a one night stop it will be an early night tonight. Our trip to Southport, NC is about 100 miles all totaled so we’ll need to start early. Sea conditions forecast is favorable - <2 ft at ~7 seconds. If that prevails then the ride should be smoother than today’s 2-3 ft at 5 seconds with a head sea. I’ll check engine fluids in the AM and set waypoints in the chart plotter as I drink my morning coffee.
