We’ve chosen to taken a seasonal hiatus in boating and from our Great Loop trip in Harbor Springs, MI. We’re about two-thirds through the Great Loop and having a fantastic and wonderful time. Much of the appeal to do the Loop was to spend time in the Great Lakes. This is an area in which we know a lot (from land) and yet very little from water. With summer behind us and fall officially here, we’ve run out of significantly long enough weather windows to put together a couple trips to nearby destinations including Mackinac Island. We want to experience more of this region and will resume our Loop travels in the spring of 2019. We’ve asked the marina to be amongst the first boats launched in spring when enough ice has come off the lake to boat safely. In anticipation of next year, we’re planning on traveling the North Channel of Lake Huron, and Lake Superior. I’m sure there will be other ports of call but these two are high on the destination list.

Arrangements have been made to store Meant To Be in a heated storage building in Harbor Springs. It is our intention to move off the boat next Wednesday or Thursday, October 3 & 4 and begin our trek home to Atlanta, a place we haven’t seen but a couple of times in 6 months! During the winter, I suspect we’ll evaluate our land lifestyle after learning how to live in much smaller quarters and enjoying the adventure of self-directed travel. I remember we were amazed how “big” our house was on our first trip home this spring after a month away! Everything’s relative!

In the meantime, we’re compiling lists of things to do, things to take, and things to leave. It will be a melancholy day when we depart from the boat next week.

I intend to continue blogging during the winter and hope to keep you posted on our lives, travels, and plans.

BTW - our weather conditions today here are partly sunny, s/w winds to 30 mph, high 65’, seas 2-4 ft building to 7-11 ft by tomorrow night; gale warnings effective in the morning. Saturday AM forecasted low: 38’. I’ve been forced to surrender my shorts and t-shirts for long pants and pullover sweatshirts! I’m not ready for this!!
