Got away about 0900 this morning. The cold front came through last night and dropped temps but had no rain. Today was clear, bright and a bit windy for the 70-mile ride. High today about 85’. Morning low in the upper 50’s. Big change!

This area of the TN River is beautiful. The river is very wide with Kentucky Lake and fairly deep throughout, but you still need to mind the channel markers. We passed several Looper boats along the way and are currently nestled in a marina of the eastern edge of the river well away from any current or turbulence. Presently there are three other Looper boats, one from FL one from VA and one from IA. This marina appears to be a destination marina for weekenders as three boats have recently come in, all knowing one another. This marina is known for the cinnamon rolls that are delivered to transient boaters in the morning!

Tomorrow is to be another beautiful day, but rain is expected Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. I hope we can be in Iuka, MS before the weather becomes too heavy. If the forecast is for showers, we’ll continue but we’ll stay put if heavy weather is forecasted.

Today I burned about 100 gallons in the four trip and my fuel meter was registering 24 gph so the arithmetic works out. Probably an early start tomorrow, say 0800 hrs. and about 65 miles to Clifton, TN.

This is New Johnsonville. Where is “old” Johnsonville? Under water at the site of the marina! When TVA flooded the valley with Kentucky Dam, the old town was lost to the flood waters. We’ve been told a significant Civil War battle was fought here. Old Johnsonville had a strategic location over the river and creek (now the entrance to the marina) and Confederate soldiers positioned cannons at the overlook and blasted Union forces. We were told this was one of the last major Confederate Civil War victories.

Barbara informs me Harbor Springs, MI has freeze warnings posted for tonight! Wow!!
