With the props removed and electronics guru Brian trying to trouble shoot the engine revving issue we’ve taken to a land existence. Yesterday we played golf at the Cheboygan Golf & Country Club. It’s a nice older course and set up originally build in 1922. It plays up and down with a lot of blind shots. The course was in good condition and it was an enjoyable round of golf. The club is open from April to November.

Today we drove over east to Rogers City with a stop by Ocqueoc Falls on the way back. Rogers City is the first city eastward down the Lake Huron shoreline. Along the way we discovered a harbor of refuge called Hammond Beach. Although somewhat removed from civilization, it had a first class set up with newer docks with fuel and pump out. Certainly not of the style of refuge we saw in the UP! Rogers City is a quaint little town with its downtown walkable from the marina. After eating lunch, we drove back toward Cheboygan and turned off the main highway to visit Ocqueoc Falls, allegedly the largest falls in the lower peninsula. These falls are accessible to visitors and families were splashing, playing and swimming in the river and falls. We walked along the banks downstream and onto the hiking trails for a bit.

Upon our return to the marina, I checked with Brian for an update. The batteries tested satisfactorily, and new shifter relays have been ordered. He was able to the have the engine rev uncontrollably as I had described so I feel vindicated that haven’t been making up things! Nevertheless, he doesn’t know the source but is in contact with Volvo Penta and their tech people in search of an answer. Stay tuned! In the meantime we’re getting antsy to move on. The weather has cooled considerably since the weekend. Highs today in the low 70’s; lows in the low 50’s!
