It was a 40-mile run today to Green Turtle Bay from the Ohio River to the Tennessee River through Kentucky Lake Lock & Dam and crossing over to the Cumberland River to GTB.

Short post last night! The Illinois and Mississippi Rivers and all of the drama surrounding lockage wore me out. So nice to be back on the Tennessee River. I never thought of the Tennessee River as “clean” water, but it looks pure after the Illinois and Mississippi!

We've planned out the last leg of this fantastic journey. We’re departing Green Turtle Bay Friday and will travel consecutive days until we get back to home port. Our stops will be Pebble Isle marina, New Johnsonville, TN; Clifton City marina, Clifton, TN; Grand Harbor marina, Iuka, MS (where we will cross our wake); Joe Wheeler State Park, Rogersville, AL; Goose Pond marina, Scottsboro, AL; downtown Chattanooga; then Gold Point marina and home port!

I spent several hours scrubbing and washing the boat trying to remove the grime and silt from the Mississippi River. The mud is as invasive as salt spray from the ocean. I finished 4/5ths of the boat and will scrub the starboard hull tomorrow. A little surprise was finding two dead Asian Carp under the lid which conceals our swim ladder! And I had been wondering why the stern of the boat smelled funny!

Our near-term travel weather looks favorable. The oppressive heat should dissipate by Friday with forecasted highs in the low 80’s. This heat wave has caused the marina to ask that boaters not use all of their a/c units during mid-day to ensure adequate electricity to all boats. As such our salon a/c runs non-stop without the support of the other two units. In late afternoon we can turn the other units on and run them overnight.
