Woke up to a double rainbow over starboard. I think the last time I had seen that was when I was in grade school. A beautiful way to begin the day. After the brief shower the weather cleared out and we’ve enjoyed a warm, sunny day.

About an 80-mile trip today. We didn’t know how far we could go today but we met our goal. Had a couple of bail out plans but the Erie Canal lockmasters coordinate the locks as best as they can. Since we tend to run fast, it doesn’t take long for us to go between locks. Lockmasters call ahead to inform the next lock and give our ETA. In fact, they held open a lock for us! BTW - the Erie Canal lockmasters are a great group of people who also double as state ambassadors and travel guides! It’s been a pleasure to travel this system.

We’re on a town wall tonight in St. Johnsville. A town wall is a dockage where you can tie up, connect to power and water, and spend some money in town. I think this is a great idea. In fact, in this town local restaurants will come to the wall and pick you up for dinner and return you afterwards. By making our destination today we picked up a day in our schedule. Don’t know our next stop but eventually we’ll end up at either Sylvan Beach or Brewerton (east or west end of Lake Oneida) then on to Oswego. Went to dinner with Dave, a boater running in a center console Intrepid and heading to Hessel, Michigan, a small town in the eastern portion of the upper peninsula.
