Two days ago I wrote a lengthy post about our touring of Mackinac Island including its significant historical sites and its geological make-up. After I had written and proof read it, I sent it to “post” and in a flash the entry was forever lost because of our spotty Internet connection. I had forgotten that while we’re traveling again it is absolutely possible to lose connection and any and all work. It’s taken me a couple of days to restore my confidence to scribe again, but knowing I need to check for the connection before pressing ”post”!

Today is Wednesday and we’re still on the Island. Tomorrow we head to Cheboygan where our replacement radar awaits us. Walstrom folks have been very kind coordinating with us for the installation. We’ve never been to Cheboygan by water. It’s only about a 15 mile run from Mackinac Island, so about an hour cruise. The approach looks straight forward. I have been told it’s a full service marina, that’s good because we need to do laundry and pump out. I don’t know or remember what’s in town but we’ll need to re-provision, too.

We’ve had a ball on the Island and would come back. In addition to using our bicycles for two days circumnavigating the island, we played golf today and used a horse drawn carriage / taxi to take us to and from the golf course. We played Wawashkamo, a course constructed in 1898 near and on the battleground of the Battle of Mackinac Island between the British and Americans. With help from the indigenous native Americans, the British beat the Americans in 1814.

We've watched the raising and lowering of the American flag ceremonies around Fort Mackinac all from the back of our boat. We’ve eaten at some wonderful restaurants and have met one of the owners, too. We’ve washed the boat, sat in an all day rain with an easterly blow rocking and rolling us. All in all - a good visit.

I’ve uploaded photos of our touring and will load a few more later today. Next communique will be from the mainland.
