Big thunderstorms came through Bolsover last night and we hunkered down, ate dinner inside and went to bed at 2100 hrs! Today we made a five lock passage to Orillia at the south end of Lake Coocaching, just above Lake Simcoe. Lake Simcoe was a welcomed relief after another shallow and narrow canal part. But today we had opposing traffic. You must slow to a near stop to ensure sufficient room to pass. I had to avoid overhanging trees that could hit the antenna. Finally met open and deep (40’) water at Lake Simcoe and the ability to open her up. We’re spending the night at the Port of Orillia and tomorrow we’ll traverse to the last last locks before exiting the Trent Severn Waterway at Severn, ON and entering Georgian Bay. As we see it right now we’re two to three days ahead of our desired August 1 date for Harbor Springs. We’re checking to see if they accommodate an early arrival or if we need to spend some time in Georgian Bay and the North Channel. A decision needs to be made by tomorrow.
